Volunteers join rescue effort

Never one to say 'NO', RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Coordinator for Volunteers, Jan Barrett, said YES to catering for 60 search and rescue workers who have arrived to join the search for the two fishermen lost at sea off the Central Queensland Coast.

Setting up her 'kitchen' at 4am with co worker Ray Tobin Jan said "When Australian Maritime Search Authority (AMSA) called for a caterer we were only to happy to keep the men and women fuelled for their mission." Jan who regularly organises catering for a variety of fundraisers had all the supplies ordered and purchased in a couple of hours.

Jan and her keen band of volunteers are now set up to cater for the search and rescue teams in the hanger at Canoona Rd until the search is completed.

AMSA are coordinating a search and rescue exercise with eight teams flown into Rockhampton to search for the crewmen who have been missing since their trawler capsized on early Monday morning in cyclone ravaged seas off the coast of Central Queensland.
