Spikerama

QR Ltd and the Great Western Arena have joined forces in aid of the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service $1 million appeal.

Spikerama is being held for its second year on Saturday 15th March 2008 with all proceeds being donated to the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service.

Come along and see the QR teams from across Queensland build a short railway track the old traditional way. The teams will manually move 20 sleepers and lay the railway track on top. A spiking hammer is then used to spike the sleeper to the rail.

Altogether 13 metres of track will be laid and once built the teams will have to ride a pump car along the track.

Teams will be timed and judged for efficiency, with demerit points (30 second penalty) being awarded if work is not carried out satisfactorily. The fastest and most efficient two teams will battle it out in the finale.

The event starts at 1pm and there will be a barbecue, raffle and auction. The railway sleepers will be auctioned in aid of the RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service. Entry is free.

Kay Becker, Chief Executive Officer for RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service said 'We are so happy to have the support of QR Ltd and the Great Western Arena. It will be a great day and we are inviting all members of the community to come along to the Great Western Arena and support their local helicopter rescue service'.

The RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service is running a $1 million appeal during 2008 to raise funds for operating the helicopter service. It can cost up to $250,000 a month to operate the helicopter.
